Re: Perch fishing
Yes some lakes have a size limit. You better have a better read. I know for a fact theres at least one lake with size limit on perch. As for most theres only daily limits. And they all vary , betweeen one and other.
Re: Perch fishing
Personally a good eating size is anything 10" and up.
If you can find the ones around 13".... and they are out there then they make for good eating.
Just be aware of your limits of course... and always double check the regs... I always do even if I have been fishing the lake for years. The regs change year to year on some lakes.!
Cheers!

Re: Perch fishing
10" is my cut off as well, any smaller I don't think they're worth cleaning. Throw them back and either they're bigger next year or the fish that eats them will be.

Re: Perch fishing
snipe lake is amazing for perch... also has anyone seen the 10 second perch cleaning video on youtube? very simple and very effective... i find when u fillet a perch there is nothing left and alot of meat still in the ribs gets wasted... if you prepare them this way the meat just comes right off the bones after its cooked.. u basically just pull the spine and ribs right out of the meat

Re: Perch fishing
Long lake 10-11"
N Buck 11-14"
Isle lake 10-12"
Isle is hard to find them I have one spot that I find them in Feb always. Long is hard as they seem to move a lot, ya gotta hunt them.Buck they just gotta be biting. I skin them if 8" and under but usually dont keep them that small. Over 8" I fillet them no bones at all. The males have more meat and u can tell which ones those are in the winter. If you leave a lot of meat on you just need more practice filleting them. 99% of my perch are fillets. I hate bones.

we pulled the nets today and we had lots of 30 cm...when I get home I'll post them....we've netted over 5000 this year...My biggest was 14 inches this winter, so the netting is thinning them and and they are starting to get bigger.....

Here are Saturdays pictures from netting on Lake Sundance....They are getting bigger due to netting them and we are seeing more 10+ inch perch...I quess the average size now is around 8 - 9 inch...Hopefully with these pics we'll get a few of you guys down to fish for them...Remember there is no limit for perch on this lake....

Re: Perch fishing
The lake was illegally stocked with perch about ten years ago....With no predators they bred until they were stunted in growth....A survey 2 years ago estimated around 1 million perch in the lake...The lake was set up as a rainbow fishery and with the competition for food the trout were starting to stunt…So netting the perch to control them started last year…
